using centre console from RHD 1989 classic 900 in 1982/83 900S?

Hi everyone,

I have an opportunity to buy a centre console removed from a 1989 right-hand drive classic 900, and all the info I've gathered including looking very closely at my car suggests that I can use the centre console as a direct addition to my car after I modify the way that the ashtry mounts.

Can anyone concur that a centre console from a 1986 and up classic 900 can be used in a 1985 or earlier car? If not, why not? Clearly there are some issues with regard to the different cover around the handbrake and transmission controls, but otherwise I see no obvious reasons that would prevent a centre console from a year model of C900 which had them being fitting to a C900 from an earlier year model which didn't.

I'll probably pop this thread of discussion into one or more of the online forum sites as well to give the thread more scope for responses.

Regards,

Craig.

The ashtray is pop revited to the knee-roll, just prise it off - the console will fit, but there will be a gap between the shift cover and centre console on Pre 1983 cars.

Should be a hole behind the ashtray where the console bolts up - may be missing on really early cars.
