I need to know where the heck the fuel filter is. I can't find it in a maintenance book or anywhere.

Do you have a library in your town? Check it out. Chilton Auto Repair manuals. Easier than to try to explain here. Dan.
On a 92 SL1 it's on the drivers side of the engine compartment, about halfway down the side. Attached by two stamped-sheet-metal nuts.
The new fuel filter you get should come with a little plastic tool for undoing the connections to the fuel hoses. If you don't have that tool, don't even try it.
