Transporting a scooter (OT)

I need to transport a 150cc Vespa from Seattle to Santa Barbara. Can anyone offer advice on the best, cheapest way to do this? I can't imagine strapping it to a pallet and some trucking company taking it - especially if all the fluids are not drained.

Appreciate the help. Richard

I cant tell you where to look exactly but years ago I saw an article in Cycle World on the correct way to ship a motorcycle. To do it right you actually have to build a crate to fit it in. The crate in the article was made out of 2x4s and sheethed in plywood. OSB would work fine. The problem with a Vespa is the way that the handle bars attach. With a motorcycle you can remove the handle bars but use the clamps to clamp onto a pipe fixed to the crate.

Have you tried Burien Honda for example. Maybe you could get one of the hard cardboard boxes that a bike was shipped to them in>

North American Allied van lines offer a motorcycle shipping service that might work for you. They offer a special pallet. I believe that you have to drain the gasoline.

Actually that might make a nice trip if you had three or foure days to take a scenic route now that the weatherf is getting better. Ride it down and take Greyhound back. Bet that Vespa rides softer that my old
