CE light in 2005 forester xt

recently purchased a 2005 forester xt as a used car (~2300 miles). no history to speak of per car fax and dealer (strikes me as a reputable lot). the check engine light has come on three times in the three weeks that i have owned it. apparently, it is due to an oxygen sensor. it was replaced last week. i was told at that time that it threw a "slow response code" which was why it needed to be replaced.



anyone encountered anything like this? the dealer is very helpful and providing me with loaners, no cost to me yet.



i was told that the O2 sensors on the turbos are more finicky and don't tolerate sitting for long periods of time.



can anyone offer some thoughts?

Hopefully all done under warranty...slow response can also indicate a bad cat, btw.

Never heard that one...sounds more like owners of turbocharged vehicles, lol.

you're supposed to red line it through every gear at all red lights, too.

the salesman who sold me the car thinks it might be because i'm /over/-tightening the gas cap (three clicks instead of just one). i know that a loose gas cap will throw a code, but i've never heard of overtightening.

All joking aside, hale yes, BS!

You can tighten that cap to the "click point" all day, it's not going to "overtighten". The sales guy may not know any better, but that's silly. Talk to the service guys. You may already know it, but Autozone parts stores will read your CEL code for free. You can come back here and get help with it, if they can't figure it.
