on 99 Outback, how to remove spark plugs??

Jan 04, 2007 2 Replies

I just bought a 99 Outback, that needs new plugs and wires. I know about removing the battery, washer fluid container, and part of the air intake to gain access to the spark plugs. Having got that far, I can't pull the wire boot off the plugs. They must be the originals with 149K on the odometer, they are really stuck tight. Any advise on how to remove? Thanks.

Grab the rubber boot part only and twist back & forth 180 degrees while pulling HARD. You will want new ign wires I presume so if you break one so what. Spray a little silicon on the outside of the rubber before inserting so it will be easy next time. You will/should "hear & feel a snap" when the boots are pushed onto the new spark plugs.
