window wind noise

After two years our Forester '01 has begun to leak air through the front windows. Anyway to get them to close properly and end the wind noise? Dealer wants to take door panel off and adjust for $60.00!

I know this is an old problem with frameless subaru windows. What's the usual solution?

First off, I don't know where you have the idea that this is an old problem with frameless Subaru windows. The frameless aspect is not a problem, and in fact, I have found these windows much more quiet than many previous vehicles whose windows were framed. However, I admit to the noise issue you are experiencing with the Forester. We have two of them, and the problem is not actually the window, but the mirror area seals. I can't take the credit for this advice, but will pass on what I learned here a long while back, and I still use this trick periodically when the noise gets irritating. It really works, so take the trial and error necessary to learn how to do it. FORESTER WIND NOISE FIX This is usually caused by the gusset, not the seal, the gusset is the triangular piece that holds the mirror. First thing to do is to roll the window down, then with your hands squeeze the inner and outer pieces together, narrowing the channel that the window slides in. The second thing to do, also with the window down and the door open, "nudge" the gusset toward the car a bit; you won't feel it move, just give it a good push. Both these "adjustments" should get rid of the noise.

You can also prove that this is it by raising the window, and sealing the window to the gusset with some masking tape. It that stops the hissing noise, then you found the culprit.
