2003 Rav4 with no ABS

Mar 28, 2007 4 Replies

I'm looking into buying a 2003 Rav4 (4wd) with no ABS. I live in Toronto where it can get quite slippery in the winter and I am concerned about not having ABS. My questions are - is it better to have the ABS option? Is it necessary to have ABS if I have 4 wheel drive? Can I get ABS put on the vehicle? Please help!

Thanks, Shivanee

How long have you been driving?

Do you ever use a cell phone while driving?

How many accidents and moving violations have you had?

Better than what? If you are asking if it is better to have ABS than not have ABS, the answer is yes if you are not accustomed to driving in poor weather conditions.

Is it necessary to have ABS if I have 4 wheel

No. Before the introduction of ABS, millions of 4 wheel drive vehicles were sold without ABS.

Can I get ABS put on the vehicle?

No.

Please help!

I've been driving for 13 years. I sometimes use a cell phone but I usually try not to. I haven't had any accidents or 'moving' violations.

If you feel you're truly aware of what's happening between your car and the road, you don't need ABS. But, if you've never had a car without it, you should look for empty places where you can practice pulsed braking (empty parking lots, for instance, in rain or snow). It's not that difficult to learn.
