91 Camry, re: problem with vibration when put in gear

Sep 30, 2005 2 Replies

I have a 91 Camry LE with automatic trans. I also have an ac. Recently, I have noticed when I stop at a light or stop sign, the car vibrates noticeably. If I put the car in neutral at the stop light or sign, the vibration goes away and runs smoothly. What would be causing this and what should I do?

Thanks, Al Kondo

Yup, you mentioned AC. Does turning the AC on or off have anything to do with this?

The 4 cylinder engine in the Camry was more prone to vibration at idle than the 6 cylinder. If speeding up the idle but putting it in neutral gets rid of the vibration, check the idle speed in neutral with the factory spec, probably around 650 RPM. If too low, look for cracks in the intake hose between the air filter and throttle body, vacuum leaks, engine and transmission mounts, AC idle up circuit, power steering idle up circuit, and air filter.
