Dude, you sound like me! Like you, I searched through tons of reviews on tirerack and other forums.
After long thought, I decided to settle for these on my wife's Lexus ES300 (I should have them in a few days). Here's my reasoning:
1) They are for my wife...and I doubt that she will be cornering at high speeds.
2) Snow traction seems to be good.
3) Bridgestone tires are QUIET! (This one's for her.)
If this was for me, I would have gone with a pair of Yokohama's H4S, with a wider stance. This will fix the sidewall issues you may have. I bought a set of these for my Nissan Maxima and the performance is great. A little noisy, yes...but great cornering and stability. Much better than the previous Toyo and Sumitomo sets.
