Hachi is correct about the failure of Toyota to conquer our shores when they first came over in 1958...part of the reason was that the US was suffering a recession at the time and even the big three were n't selling that well in '58 and '59. The Edsel took a bath at that time too, and the auto styling of the late 50s was grotesque at least ...take a look at the land yacht called the Buick Roadmaster of 1958 to see what I mean.
