02 Camry A/C condensate hose blocked

I noticed that the floor was wet on the passenger side and the depression where the fuel door release handle is, was wet too and it had not rained in a while. Then I turned right and heard a strange sound as the squirrel cage fan probably "dipped" into the water.

The condensate hose from the air conditioner is probably clogged. There is very little water draining out of it and the humidity is high outside.

I removed the glovebox and the cover panel under the glove ox, but I did not see where the drain attaches. I will have to jack the car up to get to the bottom side to see if I can find the tube.

What is the best way to unplug this tube? Can it be done from under the car, or do I need to get to it from the top? Is the top inside the passenger compartment or on the firewall side of the engine compartment?

Thanks,

Yes, I am sure I am not losing coolant. Coolant has a distinctive smell. It is slippery to the touch and it is normally colored (green or red). The stuff in my carpet is water. I smelled it, and felt it. i stopped short of tasting it.

The normal flow of water out of the condensate drain tube was just barely a drip just before I noticed that the carpet was wet.

Thanks for offering a suggestion.

Find the hose under the car and run something like solid core electric wire up it 10- 16 ga.

This morning, I tried to poke a heavy wire up the drain tube, but there is a bend in the tube, so the wire would not go very far. Then I pulled the carpet back on the passenger side of the tunnel and found the drain tube. I straightened it out and stuck the wire in. About a gallon of water came out. I don't know if it was 1 U.S. Gallon or

0.9689 British Imperial Gallon, or 0.1687 amphora (See

I didn't see any dirt come out. I caught the first pint (OK here we go again.) in a cup. So what ever was clogging it is still there.

I tried to pull the rubber hose off of the nipple (am I allowd to type that word?) , but I didn't want to break anything, so I quit pulling.

I had that happen on an '82 Corona. After I poked a wire up the tube a load of water came out. I couldn't tell what clogged it, but it never clogged again. Just keep an eye on it. Might have just been some bug nest that collapsed and is gone for good. For email remove "_no_spam_"

That is encouraging. There were two things that I thought could have clogged it.

1) Spring Pollen season just finished about the first of May. Absolutely everything was covered with a thick blanket of yellow pollen. 2) I live in a brand new development, so there is lots and lots and lots of construction dust. Did I say it is dusty, well it is. Real real dusty.

Thanks for your input.

My sister had a similar problem with her 02 Camery. It wasn't the drain hose that was blocked, but the filter under the cowl vent (The vent between the hood and the windshield) that was blocked. She regularly parked under a pine tree that lost a lot of needles. THe filter (looks a lot like the engine air filter) was completely full of needles. You couldn't see it without removing the filter.

THe dealer charged $80 to replace it - probably something you can do yourself for $25.

Mark, thanks for your input. I have regularily changed the cabin air filter. It is really easy to get to, right behind the glove box. the hardest part is emptying the glove box, so it doesn't all dump on the floor (lol).

Since I stuck a wire into the drain hose and have kept an eye on it to make sure it was dripping, I haven't had any additional trouble.
