The "outside" door handle on the driver side door of my 98 Camry will not open the door. The lock and inside door handle still function properly. Any ideas on what might be wrong and what parts might be necessary before having to take off the interior door panel and taking a look?
Sounds like the control rod isn't connected to the outer handle - either broken or has come loose. The only way to tell is to pop that door panel off and have a look. Worst case you'll have to replace the handle.
Its a 90 cent (several years ago) plastic joint that connects the control rod to the handle. They are typically broken when some one tries to get into your car with a slim jim -- but they do break normally too. Wasy fix once door panel is off. Get new front speakers and do at the same time (see Crutchfield for correct ones).
