Shifting & Wiring Issues

I am having issues shifting out of park, and my brake lights are not coming on all of the time. I believe I have a loose connection in the break lights. The main issue is when I try to go from park to any other gears I have to push the shift override button, but I can switch through any other gears with no problem; its only going from park to any. I believe it could be the relay but I dont know where to find it. Anyone have any other ideas on this? (1990 toyota, Camry, 4 door, V-6) [Email - snipped-for-privacy@yahoo.com]

Sounds like the shift interlock system that prevents shifting out of Park until the brake pedal is pressed. It is sensed electrically, so the brake lights need to come on. Have you checked the wiring harness near the trunk hinge? Often wires break or make intermittent contact due to frequent flexing.
