I am prepping my car for paint and want to remove the handles and can't figure out how. Any input would be great. Thanks

Are the two large screws on the side of the door the ones you take out by the handles.
Yes, but I thought that '70 only had one screw (could be wrong). It is hidden behind the rubber weatherstrip.
After removing the screw, push the handle toward the hinged side. That will release the "tab" that holds the skinny end of the handle.

You're right, Speedy. I have a 70 bug and the one screw is behind the weatherstripping.
Thanks guys I got them off. It is only one screw that takes the off and there is another right next to it.
