Accelerator to the floor?

Jun 27, 2004 5 Replies

Hi everyone, got a quick question for you.

I'm driving this morning and going down the road my accelerator pedal goes to the floor! I've got it home now thanks to having a truck and towing it, but none of my VW books have any quick fixes. or any fixes at all for that matter. I believe that the accelerator cable has come loose, and i can see it sticking through a small hole in the thing-a-ma-bob that the pedal itself is on top of. Sorry, but i dont know the technical term for it =) Any help would be appreciated, and I'm pretty sure this is just an easy fix with a screwdriver, but I have no idea how to do it =P being in a small corner around all those other pedals doesnt help either =)

Thanks a bunch, Aaron

Take a look at the left side of the carb and see if the cable is attached to the throttle lever. It it **is** attached and it **is** attached at the pedal end, then it is broken.

Post back with what you find and PLZ the year of whatever it is...

...this happens to me all the time....regardless of what I drive...

I got a 'bulletproof' throttle cable from aircooled.net. It is about 4 times t5hicker than the stock cable and is guaranteed not to break. It is a hassle when you go to remove the carb though because of they way the end is but who cares about that?

i have the same cable....i soldered the =end of the cable to make it more like the "stock" piece....and to also keep it from unraveling and eventually becoming non-reusable.. JT
