Ack! Single wire alternator installation.

Ok, I got this baja, figured I was going to "simplify" it and install a single wire alternator to help support it's 5 million watts of offroad lighting.

I hooked up the single wire on my bus like:

Large wire from positive cable ->alternator (only wire there) alt light oil light

I seem to have one extra large red wire on this beetle, and am not sure where it goes to. Positive side of the coil, or to the spade connector on the starter, or to the live side of the starter?

Thanks.

(I promise I will never make fun of another baja, or Ant for owning them ever again, dang, they are nice to have, even though I haven't driven mine yet, I see lots of possibilities. :)

depending on how modified the wiring was you could have

1 red wire from alternator to starter lug and start lug up to battery and rest of vehicle

2 red wire from alternator to the starter lug and then battery and a second red wire from alternator that went up to the front of the vehicle ignition switch.

3 red wire from alternator to battery with a wire from battery down to starter and a red wire to the front ignition switch.

these are the most common rewire variants that i have seen.

Converting from 12V generator to 12V single wire alternator.

I definitely have the red wire from the battery, red wire from the battery to the starter lug, and one red wire up front to the ignition. I had it hooked up correctly (it seems my brain isn't as fried as I thought it was) but now I get to delve in deeper and try and figure out why my idiot lights aren't working as they should (constantly on when I connect it to the alternator light place).

Thanks for the sanity check.
