I think a business in Wisconsin still makes the conversion. I don't have his name but maybe you can find him on search. He also made the delivery wagon conversions. Dennis

Man what a mis-mash of parts! If that thing is REALLY a 66' then the front had to have been smashed up too becuase its all 68-up stuff! Empi wheel ($500) uh looks more like an old grant to me!

BTW the Dobie (SP) kits are still made, someone here in FL has/had the kits. The one on samba looks like a homemade job but simaliar to the Dobie kits. Last time we saw him at a show we asked and he wanted like $1400 for the basic kits. needless to say, there not selling like hotcakes! Mark Detro Englewood, FL

Nice workmanship and all, but he's wrong about the steering wheel. Grant ($50 new).

....................Yeah, there's a welded seam visible on the apron just above the spare tire but it still can't be a '66 unless the four-lug drums from a '68 or newer bug were installed. I have a Grant steering wheel on my '66 and you're right, that is a Grant in the pics. Those fresh air control knobs on the dash are out of place in a '66 and are '68 or newer as well.

66's didn't have a fresh air box in front of the dash at all and the trunk lid wouldn't be louvered as can be seen in that same dash pic. Another thing that's wrong for a '66 is the the speedometer which wouldn't have the integral fuel gauge like that one. The fuel tank does look like it could be from a '66 but the thing that really confuses me is why the sheet metal where an external fill tube would be on a '68 or later model is instead apparently consistent with an earlier model like the '66 that had the fill cap inside the trunk!

............Everett Barnes ought to pull that ad for being fraudulent, in my opinion, and anyone who inquires about purchasing it ought to inspect the VIN on the tunnel and then see if it matches with the seller's title first!

It's going to be titled and sold depending on what year pan it's sitting on. Could be a 66 pan with all sorts of bastardized other things done to it.

And I thought I'd seen everything.
