Best Parts Supplier

I recently picked up a "61 Ghia Convertible. I am in the process of stripping it down so it can be restored. Lots of parts are in need of replacing. Any advice on the best parts supplier or particularly bad experiences etc will be appreciated. Thanks. Russ

Depends on parts you are looking for and where in the world you want to get them. I have bought most parts either from Keiteleen Kone or Mansen VW-osat. (I bet you did not want to know this.) No particulary bad experiences.

You don't have a lot of choices when it comes to Ghia stuff. There is Karmann Ghia Parts and Restoration, House of Ghia, West Coast Metric and JBugs. There are a few others but the selection is smaller. They all sell the same stuff, with the exception of HOG which sells some stuff imnported from Germany which is better quality that the stuff manufactured by West Coast Metric and KGP&R. Problem is HOG is notorious for being difficult to reach. All the Ghia stuff is expensive and you will not discover a big price difference. KGP&R has the widest selection and you might find it easier to deal with them then multiple vendors.

I'm going to buck a trend on the board... I

'd suggest that you find a local supplier who has machining capabilities and start to work with them... Ask fellow collectors... most areas have 4+ bad suppliers and one trustworthy one.

You'll end up paying slightly more for the parts... but they'll be there when you need them

I normally have to wait for 24 hours at the longest to get single parts....

If you don't buy from them, they'll close... you'll save the added costs on shipping and through good advice.

For larger orders or specaility things... really depends on what you're buying....

I've used them for my convertible top parts and windshield seal.
