distributor problems

I replaced the crankshaft on my 67 engine. Put everything back together. The distributor drive shaft seems to be sitting too high, the rotor is being pushed up far enough the plastic part of it rubs against the cap. Can I push the shaft down? If not, do I need to pull it out to 'fix' something? How can I pull the shaft out w/o the special tool?

The drive gear in the case has a couple of thin washers under it . That will limit how far "in* it can go. Don't remove them.

The distrib shaft isn't supposed to move up or down very much. Have a look at the distrib.
