Mile milage counter has stopped working in my 73 bug, i have tried to get the speedo head out but it doesnt seem to want to budge is there anything holding it in, and what can i do to fix the problem once out?
That would be a Super Beetle. You must first remove the trim piece which runs along the bottom of the dash and holds the rocker switches; there are screws at each end hidden behind the end covers.
Then, unscrew the speedo cable and push/pull the housing out; it is only held in place by a large rubber ring.
Then the bezel ring has to be pried off. Once inside, you will find that one of the gears has split and now slips on the shaft. A high-strength adhesive may work to hold it in place.
The whole process is a lot of tedious work (IMHO).
