My newest project

WOW! An erkel mobile. First time I ever saw one was that tv sitcom, "family matters".

I messed around with a Fiat 500 when I was 17. It was a running rust bucket I got for free. I fixed up the rust and did a minor tuneup to it then gave it to my sister who just turned 16. She was so happy she had her own car.. It didn't look as nice as these:

Wish I was you. The Isetta 300 has got t o be one of the coolest, most "self-contained" bit of automotive animal ever born. AND!!! you can drive it to Chile and back for $11 (less if you tap hitch-hikers for spare change.

You've got to go to a motorcucle to beat the 300 for classy, cheap travel. Finish the project. Tell me what you want for it.

Funny you should come up with that! My neighbor has one that's been in dry storage for something like forty years. Still has the 60's plates on it.

That's the real European model, isn't it? The USA models were modified so that the single rear wheel was replaced with two tiny wheels right next to each other. It still acts like a three-wheeler but qualified as a four-wheeler (and ironically, in some states can be licensed as a motorcycle.)

Jim, Does that car bring back memories. In colllege we painted it green and drove it in a St Patrick's day parade in 1967. If I sat down on the passenger side the springs shorted out on the battery and started to arc and set horsehair on fire.The car scared me because it was so small in urban traffic.
