new vw bug problems

I wouldn't mind another one, but their prices have gotten beyond what a cheap bastard like me is willing to pay.

Note that the date on that site is 9/24/02 and that he claims that "It will be going up on EBay "Real Soon Now"" I wonder if he ever posted it there or not, and if it's even still available.

It appears to be original and pretty clean overall, but I don't know where he gets that 600cc idea from, that is (or was when built) a 300cc engine, hence the model name.

If it's a runner needing minimal work it may actually get close to $4000 in today's inflated market. Have seen restored ones go for anywhere from around $10 to 25K!

My first one which didn't run was free, and my later one which was complete but hadn't been run in many years was less than $500. Got the first one some

20 plus years ago, and the latter one around 10 or so years ago. Obviously the prices have gone nuts since then.

Actaully there are scores of different bubble car makers from all over the globe.

The Isetta is an offshoot of the Italian Iso-Rivolta bubble which BMW re-engineered and installed a modified motorcycle engine of theirs.

These were built as bubble windows (one side window tilted outwards to open), sliding windows (most common, fabric sunroof optional), a convertible version in which the rear section of the roof folded down, and even a pickup truck variant!

Then there was a later larger model 600 that also had a door on the side, this in turn led to the BMW 700 which led to the 1500 and eventually the

2002.

I happen to know where there are 2 fully restored Isettas sitting in a barn. I'm real sure they could be bought.

Are you sure about the engine bit? The only BMW engines I know of that period was the vertical OHV 4-cycle shaft drive and the dual-cylinder shaftie. Had 'em both. The engine in the Iseta (yes, Iso-Rivolta) looks more Italian.

Yes, the Isetta used a one lung version of the BMW bike engine. Even the crankshaft is similar in that it's a pressed together afair.

Packards? Whadya wanna know? The Torsion Level V8 cars are my favorite of the postwars.

You bet your sweet bippy I am. Got some I need to get rid of, but the projects never end. Am slapping a truck cab onto an 80's Chevy truck chassis, and have a round headlight 63 Avanti that I'll be doing a subtle semi-custom deal to.
