that is hardly a good explanation Pete...there are far more "stale" examples out there that have not plumeted in sales....these days of many choices for the same money, people get spooked easily about getting alemon...plain and simple...the old saying in business is(and stands true) "if you give someone a good product for a good price, they will be happy and tell thier friends, if you give them a bad product they will tell *EVERYONE* they know.."

time to bring those oil changes into the 3000 mile range...you do want it to go another 100-200k, right?

................5k is what's recommended by the manufacturer and I'm probably going to use it as a trade on a newer model in a few years.

Well, to flaw my own logic...the 85-92 Golf/Jetta were strong sellers from day 1......

Compared to say, the Nissan Sentra or Mazda 323 or Honda Civic or BMW 318i or Ford Escort

yeah but the manufacturer doesn't want it to last to 300k...our new mazda says

7500-10000 miles...i changed it today at 3,009 miles.....maybe im too "old fashioned", but i have several high mileage vehicles to show that the 3k oil changes are a good idea...on my acvw's i like no more than 2k....maybe i'm just OCD?

Once again though, in 2000 the New Beetle was a 2 year old car, that was far more complicated than a '74 Beetle. Also, to be fair, several of those TSBs for the New Beetle aren't exactly issues. Such as these

  1. 4400-02 AUG 00 Alloy Wheels - Cleaning
  2. 6400-02 AUG 00 Windshield - Cleaning Exterior Surface Residue
  3. 5000-01 JUL 00 Paint Code - Cross Reference
  4. 4400-01 JUL 00 Wheel Lock Bolts - Identification
  5. 0000-03 JUN 00 Vehicle - Fluids Capacity Chart

WHich reminds me, I spoke to DeeDee (Big Goddess) and she said "Does everyone hate me now because I have a new beetle?"

Actually, she has a NB, a Golf (which I happen to love) and a Jetta. She totally went to the dark side! What a traitor!

Don't worry, Chris. We won't completely disown you. But God is still a little mad you never washed my car. :)

Kidd, if you or any ramva-ites see me in a NB, then you better disown me, because i have gone mad....was i supposed to wash your car? if so, never fear, i will send rain your way....

Okay. I can deal with that because after knowing Jan for 4 years I have the looney farm on speed dial... For him or for me, I'll never tell!

Maybe this time I'll get more than just half of it waxed? The last car I had got washed and HALF waxed in December of 2001. Half, because I couldn't seem to finish as I was getting sick (found out later that day I was pregnant. That explains it!) It stayed half- waxed until it was totalled in June 2002. :)
