Chris, there's no reason I can think of , that would make that a bad idea......................No issue with it at all.
Fact VS fiction is what was in question in my thinking. It's ok to do it , and even recomended on these old dogs we all have, due to the open to the atmosphere situation. Just on the new/er vehicles it's not such an issue. That is obvious to some of us, but to the alarmist crowd, it's just best to be careful and state things as fact or opinion, and make it very obvious what's being said...........................Geez,...............unless it's someone who irritates ya,................then tell 'em it's best to change the oil every 500 miles or something like that...............no???
LOL
I certainly think in your case you are making good decisions Chris.

If you don't, it's its.
and likewise yours
The aircooled engines are still open to the athmosphere, and suck in dust and other crap. No matter what oil, it gets dirty faster than in modern engines. Even if a real filter is installed. This is why original oil change intervals are to be followed.
The T4 has a crank seal at both ends, and a modern oil filter, so it is a little better in that respect.
