If you are talking about the aircooled golfball, go post in rec.autos.makers.vw.WATERcooled

If you mean a mexican sedan, then, they are nice, but not german... and fuel injected....

The big problem is that a lot of people are complaining about the transmission shifting really rough. I had that problem with my 2002. They reprogrammed it and it worked for a while then started doing it again. I traded it for a 2004 convertible with everything on it. Its a great car but it also shifts rough when its cold. The emergency brake button (decorative Plastic chrome colored) covered button WILL break. The biggest problem with the old new ones has been with the power window switch. You will notice in some of the magazine, real source, rocky mountain that they sell replacement window switches...... HMMM wonder why. Other than the transmission shifting hard when cold and the emergency brake button popping off I have really enjoyed my cars. Oh, the Emergency brake button has already come off my on my 04 convert. Its all under warranty so who cares. I can't believe they haven't redesigned that button cover. I don't even know why they put it on. I may not even have mine replaced.

I've seen at least one Isetta that someone repowered with a Harley engine. Dunno what they used for a drivetrain though.

Didja know that the right hand drive models used a massive dead weight on the left side to offset the combined weight of the engine and driver? Sheesh!

For those of you who might be interested, there's an outfit in the UK who makes repops of these and the Messers too:
