Yea Bill its me, I have been sitting on a 71 ghia vert for a few years now and think that would make a great parts car, it helps that its close to my sister in MD.

It looks like 64-67 era, no side marker lights and little amber turn signals. We saw a 64 in a dealership that had no windshield wipers and the turn signals had been taken off the front. And the guy wanted $9000 firm for it. It had, in the trunk, the original black California plate that was in the correct range for a plate that was issued in 1964. I wonder if he ever sold that thing.

no and damn it, I would have gone as high as $1000 if I knew how E-bay worked, I couldn't get back to my computer on the last day So my 71 ghia vert will have to wait till I find another donor.

Then why doesn't it have the wide turn signals? I thought the bullet turn signals were used only until the new DOT specs in 1968.

I have 3 69 ghia's at my shop with the bullet turn signals, not sure if 70 was the change year or not. Mel P. could better answer that.

Nope, '69 had the bullets and the small tail lights. I think '71 was the year they came out with the big turn signal indicators and the rear reflectors.

Yes but after 1968, there was a requirement from the DOT for some sort of side marker lights/reflectors on all new vehicles. Ahh, I stand corrected. I only saw the front photo before. Now I see the little round reflectors used from '68 until they put in bigger turn and tail lights. Definitely has pre-73 bumpers., but I'm not sure where they fall. I know they changed the Beetle in the 68 model year to the 'new' bumper, but not the 'new new' bumper they had to start using in '73. I'm not sure what year they changed in the Ghia. Not quite as familiar.

I thought so, too. Maybe they were just using up stock? Can't think they would have that many made ahead even in 1967. DOT started getting tight on that stuff in the 1968 model year. I wouldn't see why they would want to have to make two separate bumpers, one for the Beetle and one for the KG, when before '68 they had only the one part for both. But I wasn't there at the time. I was watching them whizz past my bicycle in those days. . . .
