Optimal oil pressure

...................According to the Bentley manual, a 1600 DP engine should have a minimum oil pressure of 28 psi when the oil is at 158 deg. F., the rpms are at 2500 and the oil is straight SAE 30. Obviously, you're conditions may be different depending on oil type, oil temp., etc. If you're not getting this much pressure at 2500 rpms and additionally, your oil pressure is low enough, at idle, to cause your low oil pressure light to come on, I'd start thinking about a rebuild in the not too distant future. Just my opinion.

..........BTW.........My Berg 1679 with about 4k miles since it was built runs 20w-50 V-Twin Mobil1 at 35 to 40 psi when it's hot (180-200 deg. oil temp) and never less than 8 to 10 psi at idle.

Rule of thumb:

Approx, 1 PSI for every 100 RPM

Idle (600-800 RPM= 6-8 PSI

Maybe a few more or less depending on temp, engine condition, oil weight, etc.

Nope, but when at operating temp, my 2165 T1 has 60 pounds at 3,000 rpm and 40 pounds at idle. (When cold, those temps are 70 pounds, 60 pounds.)

When my 1776CC idles, i have inbetween 25-30... whats that mean??
