You have to shop very carefully. We recently had a thunderstorm that fried our ISDN line and the router. When I went online to buy a new router I found our model had been discontinued and the choice available (at least here in France) was much smaller, mainly because most people are going over to ADSL. I was looking at having to shell out 600 euros for something that had more features than I needed.
In the end, I got a router on e-bay from the UK for ... wait for it ... £1.
(plus £10 shipping - but even so...)
