Corsa Turbo

Is this a complete kit that I could give to a competent mechanic to install to turbo my 1.6 16v Sport?

Obviously the brakes would need some upgrading but engine wise is this kit complete?

If that's a buy it now on the bottom right for EUR 1.449,00 then that's a grand for the kit.

Tis tempting.

You can pick up complete Calibra and Cavalier Turbos now, quite cheaply, mainly with a shagged transfer box dragging the price down.... and Courtenay Sport do ready made kits off the shelf, for the things you'll need like driveshafts and engine mounts, if you were to drop one of these C20LET lumps, (or even the non-turbo C20XE 'Redtop' which responds well to engine mods, and is 156bhp at the crank in non-cat form), in.

Without bothering to translate the text in that link, most turbo conversions need you to lower the compression of your existing engine, as well as uprating the conrods / pistons etc; in other words, not cheap nor a five minute job.

It's a nice idea, but probably more expensive, and hassle, than it's worth.

The internals wouldnt take it.

your looking at around 2.5-4k for turboing a corsa (doing a good job anyway)

Only things I'd worry about are lowering the compression - either machining the head or decking the pistons would do - and where is the ignition control unit to retard the boost?

All should be done/fitted ad an aftermarket part by whoever does the conversion. hence the high cost.

pfft waste of time

go the same route i went with the nova(basically the same car)

buy one rather dead calibra turbo (bought a complete car with a heavy rear end shunt for 900 quid)

sell off what you dont need (i got more than i paid for the car back in the end between rims brakes tx box F28 box and the leather etc etc

buy the mount kit(mines cost 40 quid inc p&p buy a set of shafts and cv's mines were 280 quid but there rated to 400 bhp seam weld the engine bay up inc chassis legs spend a day bolting the engine up :)

Enjoy 208 bhp in a corsa

spend another few hundred quid and you've got a nice fresh engine

shouldnt cost too much for a quick rebuild of the engine as parts are pretty cheap for the LET engine :)

enjoy sub 6 second 0-60 and a top end of 150+ mph :)

ps for maximum effect be like me and leave the stock badges on :) 1.4 SR with a ptshh :)

Sub 6 second? Pfffft...

Sub 6 seconds would be possible.....but would require a *lot* more money that "just a few quid"

in a nova easily, it's a 200bhp engine with a seat on it :)

Only if you RWD the thing. Or fit wheely bars.

I've actually just been sad enough to google about to see what a 2.0 Turbo Nova will do, turns out some of them have actually done

...and go overboard on the engine ventilation side of things, else you'll be looking at sizeable power losses when it gets hot, due to the cramped space in which the engine / turbo etc., is expected to perform.

theres a 4WD V6 corsa doing the rounds at the minute...

Current astra coupe and current vectra aside of course.

Oh, and the signum, it's odd, but it's nice...

i said sub 6 seconds ie 5.8/5.9

perfectly feasible

and as for 150 mph top end again

F28 g/box drop that in

had mine pulling off the clock 155+ on thedigital dash but mines has the F20 tho which is a bit of a s**te :)

rue the day i find a decent non shagged F28 6speed tastic :)

I'm sceptical. Its a FWD vauxhall after all.

Still fast though.

Are you trying to tell us that with a C20LET and a 6 speed 'box you could pull over 155mph in a corsa?

Dude, when you get to this speed its aerodynamics that hold you back, not Nova optomism or "valver power".

My dad's old MK2 1.3 astra would read >130 on the analogue speedo. I think its fairly safe to say that it was not going that fast, don't you?

I agree it'd be pretty quick, but I doubt a non turbo one would pull sub 6 seconds. Lack of torque y'see.

Example.

Delta Integrale.

Std (200-215 bhp) Top end = 138ish Modded (320 bhp) Top end = 138ish BBR 600 Bhp, Top End = 141... Lancia Works 300 bhp = 138ish...

Remember, you must look at CDa not CD for this, the CDa of a corsa is low due to it being small. 200 to 220 bhp should be enough.

I hope so...

If the non turbo C20XE is good for 7.5 seconds standard in the Cav GSi, a tuned one in a well sorted chassis wise Corsa, should be a fair bit quicker, if it can get traction.

Yes... it's called 'gearing'.

gearing?

gearing?

Raised limiter?

Gearing?

Rally cars don't really need 170mph top speeds do they? Volvo have to fit limiters to 250bhp S60s to keep them to 155. Rover to 240bhp 75s. BMW to

250bhp 3 series, all bigger cars than the corsa.
