I'm sorry to say that it was just a matter of time before something like this happened...

My sincere condolences..

J.

Agreed. (see subject of original post) I'd be surprised if similar stuff hasn't already happened more than once more after this. Just waiting for it to appear in the media outlets at this point. No easy answer for this mess.

November's presidential election is my answer.

Today on our local NPR radio station during the noon talk show a caller had an excellent point, the upshot was-whose fault is it when a tool, incorrectly used, causes harm to the wielder? The point being, the military, although a very good tool in some instances, may not be the correct or ideal tool for the job being imposed upon it. The US military is not a police force or diplomatic corps. Asking it to perform those jobs means being willing to accept less than ideal outcomes since it is not good at fulfilling those roles.........

That's the greatest understatement I've heard today. The current administration is involved in something so far over its head I have to believe it was pure insanity, willfull stupidity, or the deepest human evil that brought them to take on Iraq. Iraq's major conflact was Sadam's imposition of one Muslim sect against anther (Sunni against Shiite). The Shiite virtually OWN Iran and Iraq. They have been at odds for 1,400 years. What in God's dear name made Bush think an army would 'fix' that culture into his own model?

Evil Mr. Sadam supported the Sunnis. They are the sect that supports an elected leadership. Now remember that religious leadership and government leadership are one in the same. No compromise. That's the way it works. So he deposed the sect that wanted elected leadership. WTF? If this ain't about oil, then what is it about?

Can you say an unwinnable war? There's ten million Shiites waiting in line to pepetuate the conflict. Where is Bush's head? Up Cheney's ass. That's where.

very sad and tragic, yet not unexpected... JT

WTF does Iraq have to do with Osama?

I didn't say anything contrary to what you are saying, just pointing out that poorly supervised and/or trained US troops really have no business being deployed as prison guards, de facto police officers, diplomats, etc.

The US military has a role over there. A very important role. But if you want to establish a prison to house problems then train and supervise some personnel to properly staff that prison-and the same goes for most any other posting.

I agree with you about the fraternity pranks that have gone on. The mere fact that it was going on and pictures were allowed and even seemingly encouraged just points out the nature of the people guarding the prisoners....
