Touch up Paint?

Hi! I'm the proud new owner of a 1978 Super Beetle which is in excellent shape. The only thing is that it could use some paint touchups here and there. It is periwinkle blue. I have no idea where to find the paint or if I should even do it myself. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Eric

I went to Paintscratch, but when I looked up the '78 Super Beetle, it didn't have the color. The Beetle was made in Germany and is called Periwinkle Blue and I've been told that it is called Barrier Blue in America. Regardless, I couldn't find either there.

If I took it to NAPA, how would they be able to paint match if I can't take the car inside?

Noob question: Would I be able to simply sand and apply the paint? The scratches are mostly smaller than a Quarter and there is only superficial rust.

Hiya Eric,

Well, this one seems to be a stumper. There were two shades of blue offered on USA import convertibles (all US imports were convertibles in 78) in '78. One was Barrier Blue (L52K) the other was Ancona Blue Metallic (L97B) which was available that year only on the Champagne Edition. Couldn't find Periwinkle Blue anywhere. Are you sure it's a VW color?

You'd have to discuss the paint matching business with the NAPA technician. I do know that the guy at my local NAPA took a couple of trips out into the parking lot to make sure his mix matched my color.

As for application.....yes, basically it's a sand and spray operation.
