Type 1 Coil Problems

Feb 27, 2006 1 Replies

Good day. I have a Type 1 Beetle that appears to be killing the coil quite often (roughly every 3 months). The coil tends to overheat and then the car will not start until it has cooled. Coil heats up quickly (within 10 minutes). Any ideas as to what might be causing this problem.

Regards, Elvin

Are you using the correct Bosch original coil? If you're using any other kind of aftermarket coil, it may require an external "ballast" resistor.

Coil failures with the OEM coil are really rare.
