Type 1 Seats

Hi,

I have a 1970 1200cc Type 1. I wondered if anyone had any ideas as to what seats from which cars might be able to fit into my bug with little/no modification. I'm from the UK so it would have to be cars built for the uk market. I was hoping to be able to salvage some from a salvage yard.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks.

Chevy Chevette seats make a good universal replacement in many applications, comfortable, easily recovered, good molded pads, flat bottom frame with threaded captured nuts, recline and fold forward, look a lot like stock type one, seats, just my opinion, but I intend to use them in my car.

The 2nd generation Camaro/Firechicken seats were basically the same of Vega/Monza buckets.

The 3rd gen C/F seats were the same as Cavalier/Sunbird, even our favorite Fiero. All quite nice actually considering their humble origins.

Not sure what the Chevettes were close to.

Mark 1 Golf seats fit almost exactly, i have them at the moment.( looked at mark 2, look similar) Got them for 30 quid in good nick. You have to lessen the width of the real legs a bit, C/O Mister hammer. Then Robert's you fathers brother.

We had Vauxhall (GM) Chevettes, and Opel Kadetts appeared from Europe & Ireland, probably looked a bit different from yours though! Came with 1300 engines mostly, although a limited number came with the Victor 2.3, which was a bit beefier

I had one about 15 years ago, and it was great for chucking about the place, I called it the shoveit, I wonder why ?.

They are mostly beyond the scrapyards now, and the few which do remain seem to bizarrely belong to painters & docorators.

Holy Krap! 10k original miles?? $3000??? That engine is about ready to pop! :-) Those cars ain't worth that kinda dough. He should've started low and with a reserve....NOBODY is going to bid.

D'oh! All I saw was $3000 and was blinded by it LOL

Let's see, the auction is about half over and he has had only 7 bids with

365 views.......hard to say as sometimes people wait till the last second....like a feeding frenzy. I really don't think it'll go past much $1500

Not that there's a real demand for such rolling abortions, but you got to figure that someone is looking at it as a cheap "new used car"

Am I the only one that fears for a generation that considers these cars "classic"? Is it even possible for anything from that era to earn such a title?

Much like it's fashion, the 80's produced some of the ugliest autos in history.

Personally I like this car, but thats more to do with being a brit, and knowing it would turn heads over here :-)

It turns stomachs here! I remember buying front brake pads for one of those in the early 80's They cost over $75!!!!! I have no explanation for this, most pads to this day cost in the $20 range. I remember replacing countless heater control cables for some reason. Pure junk.

...........Yep!.........That's a chevette alright. My wife had one when we got married 20 years ago and I inherited it because my Olds Delta 88 was a lot safer for her and the kids. I flailed the crap out of that POS for maybe four years before it finally croaked. I will say that it was just about the only GM car that I've ever seen that didn't rust.........very odd......cadillacs get rot......chevettes get a bad rep. I remember that I had a hell of a time climbing some of the hills in Pittsburgh during the winter with that son of a gun. Whenever I'd get it up to 85 or 90 mph on the expressway, it would start fishtailing on the curves.......

The fishtailing was due to it having to cart around your lard ass LOL

..................I remember that I could fit a 400 lb. medical device (a console that keeps old pharts like you alive when your ticker won't tick) in the back of that POS 'vette and make it all the way to Wheeling, West Virginia and back in the middle of the night without my wife ever realizing that I was ever gone. With that much weight in it though, I'd have to stay at subsonic speeds or get plastered to the ceiling of one of those tunnels in Steeltown.
