V50 2.0D

First time poster...

I've just taken delivery of a used V50 2.0D with 7,000 miles on the clock. I'm very impressed with the car so far, except the fuel consumption seems low...i'm getting about 34 mpg with a mixture of town and motorway driving, i was expecting more around the mid 40's.

Has anyone else noticed bad consumption with their 2.0D? It's going back to the dealer tomorrow to sort out a couple of minor issues but I'm going to ask them to have a look for me.

By the way, this is UK MPG, not US MPG...

Thanks.

With only 7000 miles on the clock, the engine is still very tight.

The more miles you put on the engine, and loosening it up, the better the fuel economy will become.

7k isnt properly run in and loosened up.

The best thing you can do is take it out and drive it like you just robbed a bank.

Current TD's must be run in hard to give their best. There are lots of cases of extreme oil consumption, smoke and general poor running from cars that havent been driven hard enough from day one.

I've got a 2004 V50 2.0D, bought it with 6k on it, it's now up to 24k. On dual carriageway I'd expect to get around 46mpg cruising at indicated 80mph. Round town should easily make 40mpg. Cruise on motorway at 70mph with cruise control and you're looking at nearly

50mpg. Unless you have a _very heavy_ right foot, I'd say that 34 is quite low. If I boot the balls off mine on country lanes (we're talking screeching tyres etc, hooligan sort of thing) I'd still expect to get about 40mpg

hope this helps

Can you remember what MPG you were getting when you first bought it?

Quite a few people have mentioned the mileage thing, will have to see what happens over the next 3-4000 miles, if still bad, get them to look at it when it goes in for service.

Thanks, Paul

hmm. Can't remember exactly, but it definitely hasn't changed much. If I had to guess I'd say it was about 2mpg worse up to 10k miles. But I do remember driving from Newbury to Cambridge and back with 7k on the clock, cruise control at exactly 70mph, got almost 50mpg.
