Golf Headlight Glass?

Apr 10, 2004 2 Replies

Hi, I've just had a stone break my headlight glass on my 1993 Golf GTTDI I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if its possible to replace just the Glass rather than the whole unit?

I tried to take the headlight out to look at it but had some difficulty, I removed the top 2 screws but it seems to be fasted at the bottom? Is this a simple procedure?

I'd be grateful for any assistance!!

Thanks

If it's not a big hole, use some glue to fill it in. Otherwise I think it's a matter of replacing the whole unit. IIRC, there should be 4 screws to remove; make sure you're not using the adjusting screws!

Darryl.

If you remove the grille and the trim under the headlamp you should be able to get at the other screws.

Since you have a GT TDI, I'm assuming it's a European model? Headlamps on Euro models sometimes tend to be constructed so the lens will come off (less likely on US models). I'd first try your local dealer and see if it's available by itself...that'll tell you if just the glass is replaceable or not. Otherwise you'll need a new lamp assembly. The glass might have some little clips around it. You can remove those and see if the glass will come off. Sometimes those clips are use in addition to some kind of adhesive and it's not intended to be replaceable but first check the dealer to see if you can even get just the glass.
