Is there a way to find out if there are any recall/warranty items for a particular model of vdub without going to the dealer? For example, website??

You can use either of those to find the recalls on a particular model/year, but the only way to find out the ones for YOUR CAR is to go to the dealer and ask... VW was very particular about which cars were recalled.... it had to be made in a certain factory at a certain day and time by a certain person etc etc in order to be under the recall... ask anyone with an A1 cabriolet whether or not their cabriolet is covered under the imploding gas tank recall... chances are the answer is no...
