HELP!!!
Twice today, my Jetta has done something out of the ordinary....After the car sat for about 5 hours this morning, I was accelerating out of the parking lot at work, stopped quickly and hit the gas. The engine revved up, but the car didn't go anywhere....it lasted for maybe 1 second and then in clunked into gear. It did this twice, both times it was cold. When the car was warmed up, there was no issue....
What does this mean?

It means you should complain the VW and see if they will buy it back! If it's a auto then maybe you have some seals around the pistons which are getting hard and not sealing when cold. If it was mine I would try one of them additives which condition(soften) the seals.
Manual or automatic?
If manual, check the shift linkage, makes sure nothing is loose and that it pushes the tranny fully into gear.
I should elaborate...
It's a 1990 Jetta with a 3-Speed Automatic...

I'd say low fluid level. Cars with low fluid levels in the auto tranny usually misbehave when cold but are OK when warmed up. Really low level and they're acting up all the time. Check the level and correct it. However if it's low it could be a symptom of a larger problem (leak) so once you correct it keep an eye on it for a while and see if it gets low again.
