UPDATE: Dead Jetta

Well, the situation isn't getting any better....

The new ignition switch didn't fix the problem, and I still have no power windows to speak of. The starter will start if you hot wire it, however from what I am being told, nothing is happening with the power windows.

The car is a 1990 Jetta GL Digifant 1.8L and Automatic Transmission

AGH!!!!

Help!

You didn't say if you cleaned the connections (battery terminals, ground strap, starter). If not, I'd bet my lunch it is a bad ground (that is if I hadn't eaten my lunch already).

Some of the early Jetta's with auto trans had the start relay feed with power from the backup light circuit. From memory the start relay is snapped on to the fuse panel above the board. I have rewired many over the years to it's own fused circuit.

Oh. It's an automatic. I wouldn't have known this because I have only owned manuals, but the Bentley also mentions a neutral/park/reverse switch. Also, check the seat belt lock relay if you have that?
