window adjustment '95 Passat

Feb 11, 2004 4 Replies

The driver's door window on my '95 Passat sometimes closes wrong, with the top back corner of the glass 1/2" outside of the rubber channel, it I have a big gap between the door and the glass, with the glass outboard of the car. Sometimes it closes OK, other times like this.

I noticed there is considerably more fore and aft 'play' in the glass as compared to the passenger side.

The rubber guides on the glass that engage the track inside the door appear to be OK, and I see no way of adjusting the tracks or the guides. The car has never been wrecked, nor had the glass replaced for any reason.

Bentley does not seem to address this, or at least I've missed it.

Can someone offer a solution? Ron/Champ 6

Well you will need to open up the door and look. ;-) It might be a loose or broken piece on the window regulator. On the Jettas you can affix/adjust the glass onto the regulator with 2 clamps. At least on the rears.

good luck! later, dave Reminder........ Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you are a mile away from them, and you have their shoes. Frieda Norris

More than likely you got things worn or broken. Two things I would look at is the regulator and the guide which holds the window in alignment. This guide clip is located on the regulator on the channel near the vertical rail near your door lock side. Good luck, they SUX!

The short rail that bolts in, or the one that is welded to the door at the bottom of the door and the top? Both look like they have cheap crappy plastic parts, but neither looked broken either.

Thanks!
