He/She is about the size of a quarter and anytime I get close it shakes the web. At least this time it's not in front of the side door. o_O

PNW has it's own spiders. :) This is an Oklahoma spider.

It's always a "she." She spins the web, he comes to court her, then they mate, then she kills him. There is a reason why people are fascinated, yet find spiders repulsive.

Probably a Golden Orb. Will stay there until the first frost and then die, but leave her children for the spring.

"Charlotte's Web, " a famous story, then film is about a Golden Orb. Written by E.B. White, whose other famous book is called by everybody "Strunk and White", which is in every writer's references.

Nice bug. I have 3 "mascots" that live in the shop at work, pictures taken where they seem to live. What would you expect in Calaveras County? I named them Number 1, Number 3, and Number 4. I am careful to shoo them away in the morning after Number 2 had a premature "Burial at sea"

Interesting litle buddies you have there. I have some that hang out on my windows ehre at the house. They make a helluva mess too. bet that it would be a rude awakening first thing in the morning if you ran in and sat down in a hurry without looking first.
