SWMBOETSLIADC is lookin for a car to replace her 19 16v.
2 cars that jump to mind are a 405 Mi16 or a MkII Golf GTi (RHD 16v, sit down Pete!)
Due to the fact she's a girl and knows nothing about checkin out cars i thought i'd see if any of you regulars knew of any good ones for sale, preferably down south (she's from the Isle of Wight)

? 16v is smoother, faster, quieter, more economical, 16v all the way Chet, the 8v is prob fun for short round town work, and getting parts

Its the same as saying which is better for the Audi, my 12v or the 30v, the
30v is a great engine, with 40bhp more than mine, its faster all round, and smoother, the more valves genrally the quieter smoother the engine. If at the time I could have afforded the 30v 2.8 I would have got it, but it was stupid money then.
Cheers Ronny, that link doesn't really help much tho! I reckon an 8v would be much better suited for her but no doubt the fact it doesn't have a 16v badge will put her off!
Still no cable btw :(

Blimey, thats only a few miles from me. A mate of a mate was selling his Golf a while back, i think its a bit kev'd up, but i'll see if its still on the market if you like
2 valve/cylinder engines are much less frantic for ordinary everyday forgedaboutit use. The nearer to middle agedness I get, the lower my favoured rev range becomes.
Agreed. No experienced a Golf GTi, but I much preferred driving the 8v
33 to the 16v. The 16v was a fair bit quicker, but you had to cane it everywhere, whereas the 8v just went - bags of torque.
One of the reasons I love my 75 is that it has as much as (if not more than) most 2lt 16v motors, but has bags of low-down torque as it only has 8 valves.
(8valve twin-cam, twin-spark with variable timing)
Golf GTI 16vs - at least the Mk IIs - are just so sluggish when overtaking and around town - unless you cane them, as you say. With higher insurance, more expensive and harder to find parts and significantly worse economy, I don't understand why anyone wants one.
They are a little faster at the top end, but they're not fast cars.
