Multi Fuel Pump Theory

Hey guys, Does anybody see anything wrong (like, oh my God, don't do it!) with hooking an electric fuel pump up in line with the mechanical pump. My theory being that by doing so would pressurize the fuel line through the entire engine compartment and thereby greatly lessen the possibility of vapor lock during the hottest days of summer as well as help furnish a stronger fuel flow to the carb. Fuel line from tank and fuel filter to electric pump; electric pump output to mechanical pump inlet and mechanical pump outlet on to the carb. Any thoughts or personal experiences? (This is on a Stude V8)

Thanks,

I believe the electric fuel pump may overcome the diaphram in the mechanical pump and pump the crankcase full of gas.
