...................Oh wow..........Now we can finally disband RAMVA once and for all and migrate as a group over to Jasen's discussion board.

...........Yeah!............That's what we should do.

............yeah right.

Web based message boards are a waste. People should learn how to use usenet. There are plenty of decent news readers now, and a lot of them are graphical.

How so? To me, the reason to start another discussion group would be to fill a hole. But in his statement, he said that he was starting one because "After searching far and wide for a good VW Discussion board for all Aircooled VW nuts, I couldn't find one"

First off, he didn't search too hard. Try

WTH is this place called? Now, your bar analogy doesn't hold water. Who want's to spend the time hopping from group to group looking for the answers to a question. Will Speedy Jim and others who regularly answer questions start hanging out at all the bars answering everyones questions?

One big reason to start up another group is to fill a specific void or focus on a particular aspect of the hobby. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any void on this discussion forum, but who knows.

I tried bar hopping between all the forums out there. It gets a little crazy. There is a lot of common patrons between all the groups and some common experts, but each seems to sprout their own local experts. Is that a bad thing? I guess not, but back to the original reason for the announcement and starting a new group. "I couldn't find one". You announce in a discussion group for aircooled VWs that you couldn't find a discussion group for aircooled VWs so you started one.

oh well..... good luck. Maybe the Fosters will taste better in there than in RAMVA.

I agree that forum hoping is annoying, but unfortunately not all the aircooled experts are into ramva, and sometimes all the experts are not enough for certain problems. I don't mean that the attention paid to this ng should be diverted, but maybe with new forums some hidden or lost AC gurus can be brought to us for consulting. I don't know about you guys, but for me all the possible help is always welcome, therefore I welcome another source for AC knowledge.

What can't be discussed on ramva that can be discussed on a web based message board?

I obviously know about this forum, how could i forget about it. I may have mis-spoke in my previous post. I love RAMVA, and i think its a great newsgroup. But thats the problem, not everyone is as knowledgable about newsgroups and that they even exist! I know a lot of people like forums and webboards because they are well organized (usually) and have a lot of great people (like all of us) on them discussing things, ranting, asking questions etc. I would love to have one place where everything is consolidated so i can read up daily on vw things. I dont mean for my aircooledforums to replace RAMVA, thats not why i started them. I simply want them to help bring vw info out to the masses. The main 2 problems i have seen with newsgroups is 1.) finding old posts and 2.) finding a newsserver tahts free! Not everyone has access to a news server where they can post and read topics. Keeping the discussion board will allow a searchable database of topics so questions dont get asked and answered twice. While some may not mind, others may. That way we can focus in on new things! Plus it will all be categorized. Im not trying to pull everyone from RAMVA over to the forums, or saying one is better than the other. Each has their respective pros and cons. I just want to create somthing everyone knows about, a good website. As I said before, please come over and just check them out. If you have any good saved articles from here, post them up too... I look forward to everyones response.

Usenet never went away, as far as I'm concerned. People have just been scared to use tin.

The pcworld article says usenet users generate a half a terabyte of data a day. Duh. Every cruise around alt.binary.* ?

Anyway, it still kinda shocks me how little spam makes it into this newsgroup (ramva). That is really cool.

Yes,it is true that Usenet is much better. however,...........Some ISP do not offer News Servers at all.................I know, Cause I was so Pissed that AOL wouldn;t allow other Software to read their server at all, I went looking and signed up for a couple of other services one at a time and found that the cheaper ones, you know,............free ones and such, Have No Servers for usenet offered up at all.

I do understand why there are other Discussion groups, but I have found it much more usefull than having the internet web stuff too................That's why I am with a cable service.

I know you use AOL and I know they have nes servers,...........The problem is , I was a bit put out with the news reader they make you use,................Theirs.

I had already seen and used AGENT, my current reader, And Liked it so much better. I did have aol for a long time, and even watched this newsgroup with it. I wouldn;t participate because of the way AOL's reader screwed things around and made it very difficult to use. I tried loading AGENT on AOL and their Parental controls crap kept smacking me down, and would not let me use a third party reader.

I know how to use AOL's reader, I know after two or three years of it that it is way inferior as a reader and I wanted something else.No,...........I demanded something *better.*

( something better meaning for ME, not everyone else)

I'm ok with whatever *anyone* uses as long as they participates somehow.

Keep up the posting and reading..................

( and yeah,..........To whatever discussion group/s or forum/s you like)
