2002 Ford Explorer

I am looking at getting a used vehicle and get rid of my old truck. I am looking at a 2002 with low miles. Are these good, reliable vehicles?

If I got one without the 3rd seat can they latter be converted to 3rd seat if I wanted or not?

I have a 02 Explorer and have experienced 3 issues with it; replaced rear axle seals, rough auto trans shifting (reprogrammed trans controller firmware) and ABS light is on. The first 2 items were covered under warranty and I haven't gotten the ABS light fixed yet. Other than these issues I am quite happy with the Explorer.

************************* These have no dipstick on the auto tranny on at least the 4.6L V8. Mine came underfilled from the factory, which only became evident after screwy shifting at time. These transmissions have been problematic on some with early failures. I'd definitely have a dealer or other knowledgeable person to remove the cap and check the level. The transmission fluid is also supposed to be changed at 40k, the dealer said it was very important to not let it go very far beyond this.
