well so far i know that it's not a bad starter. When i try to crank it up the engine turns over quickly but never comes completely on. Does anyone know what it could be? thanks.

It could either be that there is no spark or the fuel is not getting into the engine. So it could be something in the ignition or in the fuel system, like a bad fuel pump.

Nope. Jeff pretty much nailed it. You need to figure out if you have fuel pressure and/or spark. If one is missing, the car won't run. You need 3 things for the motor to run. Fuel, spark, and compression. It would be pretty odd to totally lose compression. You've lost fuel or spark. Off the cuff, on a 15 YO car: -No fuel= Fuel pump -No spark= TFI Module
Check the battery ground cable for corrosion where it splits. They tend to corrode inside the joint split. You may have to remove the vover over the radiator to get at it. If you can hear a loud pitched squeal in that area, that would be typical if this.
