Has anyone ever put air bags under there TJ? Does a kit exist. I can just get my TJ into my Garage and would love to put a 2" lift via airbags. I got the idea when I was at an RV dealer who was selling kits for trailers. This seems to be common when towing heavy loads. What effect would it have on the TJ?

It would suck. Not a little bit, a lot. Not only would it suck, it would suck.
You need a taller garage door. Have you considered those steel roll up type doors that come is something like 5 sections? The top most section can be decorative with windows, or it can be plain like the other 4 sections. This type of door can be installed for less than $500 bucks for a basic model, and it will provide you with about 8 inches of additional clearance.

I'd like to know why you think this. You're obviously not running an air bag system, and there are loads of people running the Airock system that differ with you. n.

Thanks for all the help. 1 thing I am not sure about is that the air bags go inside the coil, and then are inflated. Does this mean that the lift is realized by inflating the bags so that they relieve the pressure on the coils? This would make the coil less compressed thus the lift? But if you were off- roading and articlated on 1 side this would mean that the spring could not really compress, unless the air bag is force out the side of the springs, but they might get pinched by the coil.
Is this how they work with springs?
I would have thought that it would have been better to make a small spacer that would fit under the coil and when you inflated it, it would act as a coil spacer. Does this exist or is there something wrong with this approach?

Airbags will completely destroy any kind of articulation you might want expect while offroading. The ride will be seriously choppy if not downright dangerous.
I have seen the internal bags used as load levelers for towing. They basically replace the spring when inflated so the ride would be something like my CJ7's....
Yes, the bag itself takes over from the spring.
One set there kinda implied a dynamic balancing act, but I didn't read it good.

Really? Offroading? I haven't seen this offroad. It is a good system for street use, but I am not aware of any useful offroad application.
There's a few guys over in the Rubicon owners forum running it (and wheeling). "Elff" is one I know of. Useful offroad applications include being able to run EXACTLY the lift you want to both on and off road, and changing pressure on the fly in any of the bags to correct an off camber situation. Seems pretty useful (if not highly expensive) to me. n.
It sure seems like it would completely screw up you articulation when they are inflated. It would be like running with really stiff, short springs. I have them on an Exploder and it is great for towing, etc., but I would deflate them before heading off-road, or better yet just head out in my stock height TJ!!

I think they are trying to stiffen them up so they act more like 'real Jeeps' with leaf springs... ;-)
