Check out the door opening lines and hood lines for being even or not and under for dings and rust. The uniframe body can get tweaked by hard off roading.

One thing to remember, folks tend to drive a vehicle to the limits of it's modifications, so this can mean a huge amount of hidden wear. Everything on it could be worn out.

I would recommend you take it to a good mechanic for an inspection before you buy. Could be a well spent $75.00.

Where is a good place to find mud that is not easily cleaned off?

Personally I'd be *very* careful buying any SUV with a lift on it. But, perhaps I worry a little too much.

Look for signs of abuse, misuse, or excessive wear for example.

On top of the skid plate under the tranny. Inside the doors in our case... Up inside the front fenders. You can look on from the open door. Inside the edges of the gas tank skid plate. Inside the frame rails is a bugger to get out too.

in and of itself, mud is not a good indication of anything really. simply driving down a dirt road in the rain is going to put mud in all sorts of places.

You and I may tend to forget this, but a dirt road is not the best thing either. Given the choice, I would rather have a vehicle driven by a soccer mom to the mall, high school, etc. or by some working Joe to commute with. Sure the brakes will be worn out but the frame probably won't be tweaked. Just my opinion.

City driving you know. If you want an off road vehicle then buy a city vehicle and fix it up. Buying an already off roaded vehicle, well like I said that is a way to get a tweaked frame. You're kidding yourself if you think a lift kit and big tires don't make stuff wear out faster.

Heh, I discovered from the TV news last week that the county I live in has over 600 miles of dirt roads.

At the time most of them were impassable due to flooding, and they were looking for some guy in a Jeep that tried a low water crossing he shouldn't have made. Found him a couple of days later 2 miles downstream from his Jeep.

Since the middle of Jan. we've had a snowstorm(12"), a tornado(no power for a week), another snow storm(12" again), yet another snow storm(18", and no power for 24 hours), and 6" of rain in a 36 hour period(thus the impassable roads).

I, for one, am ready for Spring to come here in Arkansas.
