In the west we typically use natural gas or propane for winter heat. The propane usually is cheaper than gasoline, but as many have pointed out it all comes from the same well. In San Diego however, they usually turn on the heat when it gets down to 65º. ;^)

Sure, worldwide oil prices dropped just because the US is having an election... GWB pulled that lever in the Oval Office and at his command all the oil suppling countries... OPEC, Iran, Venezuela, Mexico, Russia, ect, all dropped their oil prices to help the Republican Party in the fall election.
Sorry, but I find that more than just a bit difficult to believe.

The two are directly related, go to something like Gasbuddy.com and you can pull up a chart showing gas prices and oil prices superimposed on each other, and they track almost perfectly.
That is virtually ALWAYS the case, a big exception was last year after Katrina when gasoline production and distribution was disrupted, gas prices went up much more than oil did but as the damage was repaired prices came back into line.

Those prices there are government controlled and regular was $1.25 a liter when we were there. That 'really' hurt and stopped us from doing a bunch of drives we wanted to do.

Average speed reads 59 mph, but then it is 6:21 AM so the only once on the roads are the drunks slowly and carefully (relatively) feeling their way home...
