We all get the point, commercial posts are unappreciated. Now can everyone stop cluttering up this board with their responses to it? The "cure" is worse than the initial problem.

Thanks!

Thank you. You said it better than I even tried to. Now everyone's pissed off at me and a couple of people have shown their ass as badly as I did (in my opinion) over this. When you're away a couple of weeks and come back to a thread like this you tend to look at it with disgust, or at least I do, and you tend to mouth off some about the whining you see in the thread, or at least I do. You get the picture. Enough backpeddaling on my part. Clearly I'll never be a Jeeper and nobody will "accept my strap." *chuckle*

Well, no. Actually it was two commercial posts. In the first one, 'Alan' pretended to be Joe Jeeper and had 'discovered' a new great product and was 'excited' to tell us about it. The ruse was very transparent and some people called him on it. He then tried recently to re-spam more openly (yet still lying about his association with the company) and again was called on it. This kind of thing can get out of hand very quickly and the 41 (now 42) responses associated to it are a drop in the bucket compared to the hundreds of thousand of 'companies' who are ready to spam the group and 'clutter it up' as you put it.

Jeep related or not, commercial posts are not allowed.

nor friends if this is how you treat some of the very people who did their best to make you feel at home when you first showed up. your enthusiasm for jeeping reminded me of my own and i believe thats why you were welcomed immediately by this group as a whole. i _never_ expected to see you return the favor by calling these same people whiners for defending the charter of this newsgroup. this group is based upon a charter that preserves the integrity of the group for those of us who come here to talk about our jeeps which is exactly what the charter dictates. a couple people whine and bitch about how this group sucks now compared to a few years ago but in reality its a very focused group and that is because the regulars have no tolerance for spammers and trolls. without the charter this group would be as bad as JU.

thats being accurate. if i said he was "ugly" that would be name calling. a non-solicited commercial post is SPAM and the person that posts it is a SPAMMER. if people want to research jeep top options they will go to google.com and type in "jeep top". if the spammer if worth half a s*it as a webmaster (i doubt that based upon his piss poor attempt at the sneaky spam) his product will appear in the search results and he wont have to resort to spamming newsgroups.

if he were truly a jeeper he would be in this newsgroup trying to help (when he could) and just being a regular joe jeeper talking jeep like everybody else in here. a link to his site in his sig file on his posts would be acceptable to everyone here. that isnt the case, he is here for one purpose and one purpose only and that is to take money from the other jeepers here. he is here strictly to sell you his raggedly ass jeep top that no jeeper i know would have on his jeep anyway. he is a SPAMMER travis, and sooner or later youre bound to realize that you alienated _real_ jeepers, the very ones who have and will benefit you most, in defense of his actions.

So, you think spending $2000 on a POS, ugly Jeep top and throwing it away is class? Purty stupid way to show class, if you ask me. Besides, you'd have to wait 45-60 days to get it and all this would have blown over by then.

Spam is spam. You let one guy get away with it, the next thing we'll be inundated with ads for penis enlargement or breast enhancement. Oh, wait, you might be able to use some of that stuff, huh?

It's also for somebody who wants to be able to check their email from any computer in the world that has net access...which was my original reason for signing up with them. It's not so easy to get to my home email provider when I'm out of state, but I can acess hotmail anywhere. At least it ain't AOL.

Nathan, I know what a spammer is. I was away and came back and saw a large thread and just frankly didn't read the whole thing. There were (someone else did the counting) somewhere around 40 responses in the thread and I'm GUILTY of not taking the time to read all of them and look up the history on the whole thing and find out that someone posted 2 messages about a top they may have desire to see sold. I'm not that anal. What I did see by skimming over the thread was a load of whining and I commented on it. Sue me. Like you said I'll never be a Jeeper now after my horrible mistake so I just won't try to be a part of that fantasy world. *rolls eyes back in head* I'll try not to lose any sleep over the whole thing like I did last night. I had this horrible nightmare of seeing someone and their Jeep get swallowed up by a mudhole. I kept offering my strap but they refused to accept it because I'd called them a whiner before and they kept yelling in this little kid voice "Nya nya nya nya nya! You'll never be a Jeeper!" to me as they sunk into the mudhole. *shudder*

This site allows you to access your email from a website for free. Also, you can leave your messages on the mail server so that you can download them when you return home. It works for most ISPs.

Chris

LMAO! If a real troll ever showed up, this group would be gone for months.

seems that one comment really bothered you more than i thought. you taunted the very people who helped you the most. _that_ is what should bother you.

Why? Any actual household business email(which isn't all that much really...just some Ebay stuff and my utility bills etc.) I get goes to my home, where either my wife or I can take care of it.. Anything else that's personal to me(news group people, forums, email lists, etc) goes to Hotmail. That way I have no need of clogging my home email box with a hundred posts of day of stuff my wife has no interest in. It's worked OK for me for several years now, why would I want to change?

Don't worry about it. There's probably no good reason to change. I do what works for me. You do what works for you.
