i suppose i _could_ take my reciprocating saw and cut the top off the back. that and sit on a phone book. :-)

You may be closer than you think to a solution. Several years ago I saw an article in JP where they took the original style TJ seats apart and reworked the metal frame to be a little more comfortable then re-covered them. You possibly could start with your passenger seat, take off the upholstery and padding, and rework the metal frame yourself. Then have an auto upholstery place re-cover them for you. I recall them mainly using a cutting wheel, welder, and grinder to rework the frames in that article. This might end up being cheaper than waiting around to buy aftermarket seats when and if they become available.

I personally like the new high-backs in my '04 and the increased rearward travel they have compared to the '97s to '02s. However I am 6'4".

thats certainly an option. however, it still sits 1" lower to the floor. if i raise it 1" it wont clear the glove box (just barely fits now) unless im misreading something.

yeah, they were designed for guys like you....at the expense of shorties like me. ha ha.
